James R. Yee
|
Mr. Yee specializes in intellectual property law, with a concentration in electrical, electro-mechanical, computer engineering and software. He spent a significant portion of his early career working in-house with Caterpillar Inc. and DaimlerChrysler Corporation. At Caterpillar Inc., he worked as an electrical engineer (where he, among other things, wrote C code for hydraulic excavators) and was subsequently an intellectual property attorney responsible for drafting and prosecuting domestic and foreign patent applications in the electro-mechanic, electro-hydraulic, and computer-related arts. Mr. Yee was also a senior attorney with Solar Turbines, Inc., a subsidiary of Caterpillar Inc., and most recently staff counsel at DaimlerChrysler Corporation, where he handled various intellectual property matters and agreements for the Jeep Platform, Scientific Laboratories and Liberty Technical Affairs. At Howard and Howard, Jim has spent the last eight years providing legal counsel to companies both in the U.S. and abroad. He has represented clients through all stages of intellectual property procurement, provided non-infringement and invalidity opinions, and litigation support. Specifically, he has developed detailed intellectual property strategies for numerous clients, including a start-up company (which subsequently went public) resulting in an IP portfolio including over 140 US and foreign patent applications; provided oversight of extensive patent portfolio and provided internal IP training for large clients.
Mr. Yee graduated from Michigan Technological University with a B.S.E.E. in 1988 and received a J.D. from The National Law Center at George Washington University in 1995. Mr. Yee is a member of the Illinois State Bar Association, the State Bar of Michigan, and the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA), and is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
